Events

Conference events give participants the chance to connect, explore and enjoy themselves. 

The first day of the conference will start with a Kick-off Coffee at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum and end with a reception at the Gilmore Car Museum

Tuesday events include a reception at the Air Zoo and Trivia.

The last acvitity of the conference will be a Wrappy Hour on Wednesday afternoon.

2024 MMA Annual Conference
MI Museums: Navigating Changing Landscapes
Kalamazoo
October 21-23, 2024

Locations

The Radisson Plaza Hotel at Kalamazoo Center will be our lodging for the conference and base for Tuesday and Wednesday morning sessions and activities. A reduced room rate is available for rooms through Sep. 27 or until filled, whichever comes first. 

Other events, including the kick-off coffee, tours, workshops and local experiences, and receptions takeplace in various locations in the Kalamazoo area.

Transportation is on your own except for the Monday and Tuesday evening receptions. 

Monday and Wednesday activities, workshops and local experiences

All conference attendees are invited to show your conference name badge to visit area museums and explore Kalamazoo during the block sessions on Monday morning and afternoon, and on Wednesday afternoon. All of these drop-in and on-your-own activities are included in your conference registration. 

Participants are also invited to sign up for small-group workshops and local experiences. Advance registration is required and an additional fees range from $15 to $100 to cover expenses. Any funds collected over expense will be reserved for confrence scholarships. 

Speakers and Sessions

The conference Keynote and General Session Speakers will address the conference theme of Navigating Changing Landscapes

Four sets of concurrent sessions provide the opportunity for members of the Michigan museum community to share their expertise and resources. Pre-selection is not required, though is possible in the conference app. 

The Museum Cafe is a general session that provides the opportunity for participants to explore a variety of topics in short, small-group discussions.

Annual Meeting

Join the MMA Board of Directors during lunch on Tuesday, October 22 at noon for the Annual Meeting of the Michigan Museums Assocition. The lunch will include a "State of the Association" report, the election of new board members, and the 2025 conference announcement.
