Connecting to Collections in MichiganSeveral years ago, Michigan Museums Association received an IMLS (Institute for Museum & Library Service) grant so that we could assess the state of Michigan’s collections in museums and libraries. Surveys were sent to over 1000 libraries and museums asking questions about how collections are cared for and managed. This pdf is a summary report of the responses from respondents regarding their collections successes and challenges. Deaccessioning ResourcesDeaccessioning is the act of permanently removing an object from the collection. It is the opposite of accessioning. Deaccessioning is acceptable as long as it done legally, ethically and follows museum standards and best practices. In order to be good stewards of collections, deaccessioning is essential.
