Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer for the Michigan Museums Association (MMA).  MMA shares expertise and resources to promote standards and practices that make the Michigan museum community thrive. Our volunteers make that possible! All volunteers are expected to be MMA members.  

Conference Planning Teams Overview

The 2024 Conference will have three planning teams made up of MMA staff and volunteers. There will also be a conference logistics team formed in the summer. 

Each planning team will meet monthly January through May. Basecamp is used for communications and coordination of the team activities. 

Programs Team

This team  will plan the concurrent and Museum Cafe sessions, and support the theme implementation, the keynote presentation, and the conference evaluation.  

(Meets the second Wednesday of the Month at 11 am, January through May)

Events Team

The events team will plan all of the conference events, including the Kick-off Coffee, Monday evening reception, Tuesday evening reception, Trivia, Member Community Meet Up, and Wrappy Hour.  

(Meets the third Tuesday of the Month at 1 pm, January through May)

Experiences Team

This team will plan the tours, workshops, and other immersive experiences that happen on the first and third day of the conference. 

(Meets the third Wednesday of the Month at 11 am, January through May)

On-Site Logistics

The team will support all in-person activities of the conference including serving as registration desk volunteers, session monitors, immersive experience volunteers, greeters, evaluators, and helping with other duties as assigned.  

(Meets the second Wednesday of the Month at 11 am, July through November)

Each team works best when it has a combination of local and state-wide members, as well as people from different types and sizes of museums. 

Time Committment

Start Date:
January (programs, events, experiences teams) or August (on-site team)

End Date:
Through May (programs, events, experiences teams) or November  (on-site team)

Commitment Needed:
One to two hours a month.
