MI Museum Spotlight: Grand Rapids Public Museum Repatriation Project
Tuesday, February 9 1:00 pm
MI Museum Spotlight program that gives MMA members the chance to share their work with colleagues.
In the fall of 2019, the Grand Rapids Public Museum worked with OBON Society to return a Yosegaki Hinomaru (Japanese “Good Luck Flag”) to its rightful family in Japan. Join Associate Registrar Sarah Humes as she takes you through the story of the flag's journey from shelves of museum storage back to Japan. Learn what these flags represent, their significance, and how to repatriate them by partnering with OBON Society, a non-profit humanitarian effort dedicated to the pursuit of peace through the return of personal items taken during war. Check out this video for an introduction to the project: https://youtu.be/-DIDvuEDbec
